Song of the Flies (2021)
The experimental animated film Song of the Flies (El Canto de las Moscas), translates the desolation caused by the violence of the Colombian armed conflict through the poetic voice of Maria Mercedes Carranza (1945–2003) and the audiovisual dialogue between 9 Colombian women. In 24 places, as a transit over the course of a day (Morning, Day, Night) a map of terror is drawn where massacres took place in Colombia in the 1990s. Archival images, the artists’ personal memories and the use of loops and analogue materials bring to life the landscapes ravaged by violence and build a polyphony of memory and mourning, a universal song of pain.

The Tale of the Old Oak Tree (1948)
Not long ago, a boy Makarka lived in this area. One day after his grandmother left for the city, Makarka cleared up and began to break trees, shoot nests with chicks, cut his own name on the trunk of a tree. An old oak tree made a remark to him: is it possible? On this insolent Makarka boldly said that nothing terrible. Then the angry trees and birds decided to teach the unfit boy a lesson, and something like that started, from which the bully reluctantly had to think and ask for forgiveness.

Composed by Pauline Kim Harris and Spencer Topel Deo is an acoustic-electronic transcription of Johannes Ockeghem’s stunning Deo Gratias devised as a complement to Ambient Chaconne. Notable as a 36-part canon, Ockeghem evokes singing of angels in heaven via an innovation on a traditional canon, using this ancient musical device as a kind of acoustic feedback delay. In essence, our Deo expands this idea of delays to a canon of thousands, in an ever expanding and infinite soundscape, where the melodies eventually dissolve into resonance.
